California, Oregon and Colorado residents stepping up to help those affected in Northern California by the recent wildfires

Northern California has been devastated by wildfires this month. Thousands of families have lost their homes, possessions and are currently displaced. Many companies are stepping up to help out the victims. The Soil King Garden Center is a hub for donations and is providing food, water, and basic necessities for those affected and shelter for large animals. Cultured Biologix are working with 1(800)GOT-JUNK out of Denver sending first aid kits, wheelchairs, and any supplies that may be helpful. Oregon’s Constant Gardener, Grow Geek, Growsmith and other companies out of Oregon are teaming up to send trucks of supplies down to California but there’s much more that is needed.

The items at the top of the list are: non-perishable food, water, new underwear and socks still in packages for adults and children, blankets, new pillows, new toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, masks, batteries of all sizes, shoes for adults and kids, diapers, baby bottles/formula, baby aspirin, contact lenses and solution. Any and all day to day items are needed and much appreciated. There are several hubs to send your donated items.

Soil King Garden Center is one of the main hubs in California that is accepting donations. Oregon has several hubs accepting donations and there is one in Colorado. If you’d like to help, please send items to your nearest hub. If you’re sending clothing, please make sure they are clean before sending. It’s good to contact your local hub before sending items to ensure that hub needs the items that are being donated and are prepared for your delivery. This has been one of the deadliest fires in California state history, according to Cal Fire. They are reporting an estimated 217,000 acres have burned, destroying 5,700 structures and taking 40 lives with over 200 people still reportedly missing so far. There is currently over a dozen fires burning in CA, most of which are in Northern California. Sonoma County alone is reporting upwards of $3 Billion in damages with thousands of now homeless habitants. There is mass destruction across Northern California, but there is hope. The winds, which have consistently been blowing around 40 MPH, are dying down and have allowed firefighters to get more control over the wildfires. Residents of Napa and Calistoga are being allowed to return to their homes after the mandatory evacuation has been lifted. The major hazard now is smoke inhalation and toxic ash and debris. With plastics, paint and chemicals burnt, it’s best for everyone to let the firefighters sort through the debris and remain out of the most heavily burnt areas until given notice.

Patrick King has taken it upon himself to spearhead the relief effort for Northern California. He has opened his Garden Center and other locations up as a hub for donations and housing large animals. He is also taking donations by phone to provide basic necessities for everyone affected by the wildfires. Patrick is currently working to coordinate with more hubs to send the necessary supplies to the hubs that need it the most. Please contact the Soil King Garden Center if you’d like to contribute.

Cultured Biologix, based out of Colorado, was inspired by Pat’s ambition to help his community and jumped at the opportunity to help. They teamed up with Growsmith and several members in Oregon to send down a truck full of supplies with more to come. They’ve also teamed up with 1-800-GOT-JUNK in Colorado. Got Junk is the largest junk hauling company in the United States. Members will sort through the items they collect to donate to the members in CA who are in need. They’ll be donating items such as: crutches, wheelchairs, clean sheets, mattresses, futons, etc. Cultured Biologix is acting as a hub to store these items and sending them to the Soil King Garden Center as needed. Cultured Biologix is also taking donations and can be reached through phone or by donating using the Donate button below.
